The truth about life behind the screens

The Internal Monologue of a TV Freelancer

EVERY DAY DURING PRODUCTION:

I did not go to university for a career that ever requires setting my alarm for 5 a.m.

I need to leave telly.

Crap, these are the jeans without real pockets, the day is ruined.

I physically can not smile at the contestants any more. Are my lips frozen? Oh god, they are aren’t they?

3 months of pre-production and this decision only happens five minutes before we go live?!!

Is that assistant really stunning, or have I just got studio fever again?

I need to leave telly.

Has anyone else noticed there are two different fonts in the script? My eyes, MY EYES!

Crap, my comms ear piece has been out for 45 seconds, I’ve probably ruined the whole show.

No seriously, how did they become an exec?

Where am I supposed to get one when the shops don’t open for 3 hours?

Who the @#%*! has taken my sharpie ?!!

I need to leave telly.

There’s no daily limit on coffee intake, right?

How am I supposed to work 12 hours when the fun-size mars bars have run out??

I’m not paid enough for this.

I wonder how long it would take to retrain as a postman…

Perhaps BECTU could help implement a rule that everyone who has to carry a camera gets a free personal masseuse.

Yep, this is definitely my last job in telly.

THE WEEK AFTER PRODUCTION ENDS:

Actually, that was fun, fingers crossed it gets recommissioned.
