The truth about life behind the screens

Why Did I Read the Daily Mail Comments? (A Poem)

I have made a mistake.

For a show of mine,

I decided to read a review online

And then like a fool (have you done it too?)

I scrolled down to check out the readers’ own view

Only to realise, by comment three,

They’re convinced of a plot by the whole of TV

To wipe out the “under-represented White Man like me”.

We’ve been accused of an elaborate scheme,

Wasting licence payers’ money on a daft left wing dream,

But the casting producer was just 28

And his only scheme was his next Tinder date.

At first I am chuckling, preposterous tripe

Oh wait, that mad comment got 600 likes?

That means there are more like User: EndOfABell

He’s written “there PC shows can all go to hell,

And they’re emigrant children can go their as well!”

The defender of the English cannot even spell.

The further I scroll the more warning it brings,

That the great British psyche looks like the creature from Stranger Things

I wonder, did they even watch the same show?

Commenter four clearly didn’t though.

They’re talking about political correctness gone mad

‘Cause the show features some one who has a brown dad.

A woman? On a car show? Not in my good old days,

Back then things were rosy, and “girl’s new there plaice”

By page two of the comments (oh why did I click)

It’s turned to irrelevant chat on Brexit.

”Another Pakistani on BBC Two?

See that’s why I voted to leave the EU!”

I’ll go to bed puzzled, my being in torment,

Asking why did I read all those Daily Mail comments.
